| ((Ophelia is somewhat of an import/evolving character concept that transcends roleplays. As such, various events in her history, as well as her RP sample, are excerpts from previous sites, and may be found in searches. All prior accounts possessing a form of this character share the same email address as this one, so if any testimonial is needed, it can be provided.))Name: Ophelia Nickname: Grief Storm (Her old Hollow codename as designated by the Soul Society) Age: 75 Gender: Female Sexual Orientation: Gray, bi Weapon(s): A gigantic, combat-knife like sword, mostly used to defend against close combat. Though no Zanpakutou, it is capable of parrying one of similar strength, as well as acting as a medium for Cero. Personality: Ophelia is able to become fast friends with any kind-hearted individual, and provided they aren’t some off-kilter, genocidal maniac, just about anyone. She is willing to give all beings a chance though, even if she would prefer to shy away from Shinigami and Quincy; their knee-jerk eradication of all Hollows is a practice she highly disapproves of. As a rule, she tends to behave subdued when dealing with people she does not know; it is a defense mechanism that has been retained from her meek persona as a human. This attitude stems from her mysterious past, and has grown much more resolved. A spirited dreamer, Ophelia has a positive outlook on Hollow life. She considers the existence of Hollows as innately natural, and attempts to thwart their proliferation are met with her opposition. Indeed, she actively encourages others to become Hollows, and is willing to make full use of any resources at her disposal to achieve this end. In spite of her attempts to protect Hollows, she is not adverse to the cannibalism that they naturally possess; Ophelia believes this to be a natural trait that should not be placed in check. There is, however, a much darker side to her than most would expect. Buried loosely beneath the surface of her behavior is a woman that will strike down those who would threaten her happiness in an instant. This facet of her personality is the result of her complete fusion with the spirit of her long-since absorbed love, Vivvi. As such, she has taken on some of his malevolent mannerisms when she is angered, and can be sadistic at times. Since the evolution of her soul into a homogeneous entity, she presents a calmer side on the surface, but should she be angered, Ophelia can be a wrathful beast. It is not uncommon to see her ravenously devouring whatever pitiable soul made the error of angering her. Physical Appearance: - Spoiler:
As the pinnacle of pure Hollow evolution, Ophelia's appearance has changed drastically, having absorbed countless Hollows and thwarted them all with her overpowering spirit. Her mask has changed radically, becoming somewhat like a stylized knight's helmet, with the visor removed to allow clear view of her human-like, cerulean eyes and the fair skin around them. From behind the top of the mask is a large plume of white feathers. A grated jaw-plate guards her nose and mouth, hiding them from view, but it can be pulled downward to allow her to eat. Behind it, her face is human with a human mouth, though her bite is no less deadly, possessing a jaw strength capable of crushing bones with ease. Her hair has become short, reaching to her shoulders and ocean blue. Her height has settled at five and a half feet, and her figure has filled out noticeably. She dons pieces of dark blue plate armor, including a breastplate, gauntlets, a belt, and greaves. The rest of her outfit consists of a tattered dark blue tunic, white thigh-high socks, fingerless arm gloves, as well as a patterned collar and cape combo. On the front her outfit is a large pink ribbon tied in a bow. Her Hollow hole now rests between her breasts, hidden by her armor. Her gargantuan blade is secured to her back by a large leather holster. Bio: In the beginning, she was not a single being. In fact, Ophelia's story starts much later. In order to understand that, however, the past lives of two individuals must be told. It all began with a single infant. The being that came to be known as the Hollow Dorze was born in Madrid, Spain to a poor family of ten. Having no means or desire to feed him in addition to her other already malnourished offspring, his mother swiftly tossed him to the wilds. Dorze became a quick and easy meal for the predators of the forest beyond the large city. His spirit left to wander the unforgiving metropolis, Dorze could do little but crawl into a pile of refuse out of an instinctual search for shelter. At the fault of his makeshift shelter, the baby plus was never to be found by the occasional Shinigami squad searching for spirits to konso, or even the occasional hungry Hollow looking for a snack. Time passed, and Dorze's chain of fate had all but eroded completely. His transformation into a Hollow inevitably took place. Dorze found his way to Heuco Mundo as soon as he could, and took comfort in the sands, nourishing himself off the thick reishi. He eventually became strong enough in his own right to make the journey to the world of the living once again. Enraged and confused at his own existence, Dorze found himself in a small village in the underdeveloped reaches of Europe. Dorze was small enough in both stature and power to escape detection by the Shinigami. He would habitually target small children, perhaps out of spite, and consume them the moment they were left unattended. Dorze would receive additional satisfaction from the reactions of the mothers who grieved for their lost offspring. The Shinigami soon began to take notice of the disappearances and investigated. Dorze wised up to this and fled the village, in search of steadier sustainance. Time passed, and the young Hollow matured a great deal. He had become one of the mighty Menos of Hueco Mundo, constantly consuming others of his kind for survival and growth. It was during this time of his life that he encountered a very odd Hollow. It was gargantuan in size and possessed a great gaping maw. Every now and then, a strange person would crawl out from beneath the Hollow. These people wore Hollow masks and possessed all sorts of unique powers, but little else. One such being that caught his eye stood away from all the others. She had long, black hair flowing to her mid back. Her mask sat atop her head like a little white cat face, and she possessed a fair allure that drew him to her. On a whim, Dorze decided to take the girl in. He learned much. She used to be a Shinigami, a fairly high seated one at that. Her name was Azuki Takadata. The last thing she remembered was slipping on wet grass into a ravine. After that, there was nothing but sand. It was then when he found her, lost and confused. The girl sparked an interest within Dorze. She was like a Hollow in that she had both a hole in her chest and a mask, but she exhibited few of their traits; she lacked the feral instinct most of all. She possessed little desire to consume nearly as many souls to sustain her. Dorze decided to make this a goal of his own. In order to end his eternal hunger, he would become just like Azuki. It wasn't until the Menos became one of the few Vasto Lorde that he was able to reach this goal. His form had settled into that of a small child; it matched his true age well, and yet, at the same time, radiated all of the malicious energy he had consumed over the years. Oddly, the Hollow lord who came to be known as Vivvi Dorze Macello, took to the habit of behaving like a girl. Azuki would stay by his side almost all the time. They became inseparable; like a mother and a child. Everything changed when Vivvi and Azuki began to associate with a group of enterprising Hollows that lived in the remote regions of Hueco Mundo. They had big dreams and ideals. They wanted to change the world by overthrowing the Soul Society, and creating a place where Hollows could live naturally without being slaughtered like animals. Eventually, they put their plan into motion. Assembling a small band of elite warriors, they entered the realm of their nemeses via garganta, and laid siege to their walls. But this pathetic invasion was almost instantly crushed by a single, strong Captain of the Gotei Thirteen. Vivvi and Azuki were the last ones standing, but the strong child had exhausted himself making a futile effort to bring down the walls. He was cut down in short order by the Captain, while Azuki could only watch in horror. She remembered the Captain, after all. She was the seventh seat in his squad for the short number of years before her apparent demise. Recognizing her as well, Azuki began to feel hope that maybe they would be shown mercy. But almost as soon as he recalled her name, the Captain moved to run her through like all the others. After all, she was merely a Hollow now. Her last wish was to be with the only one in the world who even cared for her anymore. Azuki subconsciously called out her mask's power for the first time. Because of the nature of the power she would have possessed as a Hollow, Azuki's very soul fused with that of the dying Vasto Lorde child. Shortly after this transpired, the Zanpakutou's cleansing ran its course; both Azuki and Vivvi became a single soul; a mere plus that ended up somewhere in the Rukon. While a soul with the kind of power the merged duo possessed, one would normally think they might end up as Shinigami. But instead, the being held in her heart that this was not the life for her, and instead of developing any of her latent spiritual energy, lived out her life until reincarnation took her back to the world of the living. She was born again as Azuki Macello, to a humble Italian man and his Japanese wife in Hokkaido. The girl lived a relatively normal life, at least by social standards. From birth, she could clearly see the spirits of the departed. Her first encounter with a Hollow was by no means ordinary. The creature was fairly weak, but it was still hungry. It was one of the smaller variety that lived off the nourishment naturally provided by Hueco Mundo. It had somehow ended up in the human world, and rather than be afraid of it, Azuki found herself nursing the thing back to health with her own spiritual power. After it eventually ran off in search of a way home, Azuki found herself naturally drawn to Hollows. Some of them were naturally hostile to her; they couldn't really help themselves, being beasts of instinct. The more intelligent ones, the ones not so quick to kill and eat anything in sight tended to get along with her, in an odd way. Some might say it was her calming presence, but Azuki just believed that not all Hollows were innately evil. Still, there were times when she had no choice but to defend herself from an aggressive Hollow. In times like this, another side of her would come out. This persona called itself Vivvi, and would violently dispatch any Hollow that dared attack her with a blast of spiritual power. Though Azuki would not frequently remember these episodes, they would occasionally creep up in her memory, and she would shed tears for those unfortunate enough to be slain by her other self. The young woman would continue both her education, as well as train herself to better be able to handle spiritual problems like Hollow aggressiveness without resorting to violence. Unfortunately, her dreams were far too naive. Azuki found that any and all attempts to prevent Hollows from being slaughtered by non-violent means were an ideal that was nearly impossible to achieve. Her despair quickly began to consume her, and as a result, she became recklessly involved in a massive battle between Shinigami and Hollows in the world of the living. The untimely demise of a single Hollow who would hear her out resulted in her snapping. Vivvi quickly took the opportunity to take over and destroy the Shinigami responsible, but the girl's body was far too weak to stand up to even the first attacks. Regaining her senses, Azuki also regained all of her memories from both personalities, past and present. Finally, her soul had completely fused with Vivvi's. She was now a single entity. Before she could truly grasp the meaning, she came to the conclusion that she had failed her love completely. Thus, when an invading Gillian almost caught her in its feeding frenzy, the wound she received was enough to kill her. Consumed by despair, only the comforting words of a passing Shinigami who viewed the world as differently as she had prevented her from traversing a path of destruction. And thus, the Hollow was reborn as Ophleia. Ages passed, and the newly formed soul came into power in her own right. Her exact memories had been reduced to fleeting emotions, and though they defined her as an individual, they would never again appear clearly before her. Ophelia was her own soul now, and as such, she would pursue her ideals with resolve. Ability: Despair TorrentOphelia's Hollow powers are mainly fueled by water generation and manipulation, though the extent to which she can control it is limited. Instead, she focuses on using overwhelming amounts. Thoug water manipulation is the medium, it is attuned to her Hollow nature in such a way as to transmit her despair to others. As a cosmetic effect, various musical instruments and their melodies can be heard during the use of her powers. Mirror of Tears - Any water Ophelia produces reflects within it images of the beholder's worst memories, whether a source of great anger or misery. This effect is always active, but anyone looking within its depths will see only their own memories (they cannot be seen by others). Sudden Despair - Ophelia channels her Hollow power, unleashing a current of black energy that looks similar to electricity. This energy causes little physical damage, but instead induces a great deal of pain and agony. The exact experience varies from person to person, but as it directly targets the nervous system, it is difficult to mitigate. Though ferociously painful, its direction cannot be changed once fire, and its activation is preceded by a loud cymbal note. Tragedy in Three Acts - Ophelia limits the use of her power initially, but increases its intensity the more desperate she becomes. As a result, she expends spiritual energy faster. Act One, Faltering Hope - In this phase, Ophelia is calm and restrained. Mirror of Tears only takes the form of an orb at this stage, but it doubles in size for every post it is ignored. In other words, if at least one person is not looking at the orb, it grows. At any time, Ophelia can make the orb explode violently, sending waves of water and her own energy in every direction. The magnitude and radius of the explosion are proportional to its size. As a purely cosmetic effect, it is always raining heavily during this phase, and string instruments can be heard playing. Song Associated with Act One - Symposium Magarum by Kajiura Yuki Act Two, Shattered Dreams - In this phase, Ophelia is feeling pressured by her opponent and releases more of her power, expending more spiritual energy in the process. Mirror of Tears is capable of being launched in the form of a large wave of water in addition to the explosive orb. The water lingers, rising with every use of the wave, and if an orb explodes, all of the water rushes outward from the epicenter with great force. The rains continue and string instruments are joined by electric guitars. Song Associated with Act Two - Decretum by Kajiura Yuki Act Three, Overwhelming Despair - In this phase, Ophelia has become desperate and launches a last ditch effort to either destroy or escape her opponent. Immense quantities of water surge around Ophelia acting like a reverse whirlpool. Potentially catastrophic flooding can occur depending on the environment and her remaining spiritual energy. In addition to this, Sudden Despair is fire unpredictably in all directions, increasing drastically in frequency and intensity the closer one is to Ophelia. This phase lasts until Ophelia runs out of spiritual energy. Finally, the sound of drums join in this Act. Song Associated with Act Two - Venari Strigas by Kajiura Yuki Bala Lluvia – Ophelia’s custom cero. Like her Cero and Bala, it is grey-blue in color. She begins by taking a position above her intended target and charging up her power. All around her spheres of spiritual energy form. They are subsequently released to fall below her continuously like rain for three seconds in a circular region of ten meters in diameter. Each individual blast possesses the magnitude and speed of a standard Bala. This ability requires noticeable setup and cannot be used in rapid succession without tiring out. High-Speed Regeneration - Common to high level Menos, Ophelia can restore any lost limbs or injuries (but not major organs) outside of battle. Form: Vasto Lorde Role-play sample: ((The following is an excerpt from the character’s most recent major plot development, edited for comprehension))- Spoiler:
It was raining, and cold. Azuki actually liked this kind of weather. It was a funny thought, most people were depressed by it, but darker things tended to calm her down. In spite of that, she could feel little else but despair.
She had tried, she really had. Azuki truly believed that Hollows deserved more than the treatment they were given, just like any other being. She did not know what it was, but something in her heart told her that Hollows were not evil. Most of them were merely suffering. Because of this, she tried to talk with the Shinigami that had congregated in a major population center. It seemed to hold the highest concentration of them, mostly due to the innate spiritual power of this area. It drew Hollows like moths to flame.
No matter who she talked to, the Shinigami would always tell her that there was no way they were going to just let the Hollows live. 'They are corrupted,' they would say. Almost without fail, each and every one would have an excuse as they callously cut them down on sight. Why was it so unreasonable to refrain from slaughter? That's all it was after all. Since the Shinigami came, few of the Hollows even had a chance to do much of anything before they were vanquished.
No matter how many times she pleaded, Azuki would not be heard.
Just then, a Hollow appeared before her. Its form was simple; a serpentine beast, the creature was very large, easily capable of swallowing her.
"You shouldn't be here. They won't let you leave now. Please, try to hide yourself okay?" Perplexed by her words, the Hollow hesitated, simply staring into her eyes. Within them, it could see no fear, only sorrow. Why would a human concern herself with its safety?
Azuki could hear signs of fighting nearby. There was no way this Hollow would manage to escape. She had to try.
"Please, just get out of here! They're going to kill you! There's way too many of them!"
The snake-like Hollow simply blinked in confusion. It had understood what she said, but was still confused about why she was concerned about it. Did not all humans fear them? They were simply food, after all. This one smelled particularly delicious, but no being had ever shown him kindness before. Maybe he could entertain this.
"My sweet girl...why do you concern yourself with me? Most of us are only out here to feed. Do you not know this?"
"I don't care! No one deserves to just die without a chance to make their own happiness! Not even you!" Azuki could not do anything to stop them herself even. They were numerous, and would not stand for her attacking them. She was too weak willed to stop the Shinigami.
Something in her words rang with the Hollow. It had been a long time since he had even thought about happiness. All he had known since as long as he could remember was hunger...
Was there any other recourse for a Hollow? Could they even be capable of anything other than indiscriminate eating?
Without warning, a Shinigami officer swept in from behind and decapitated the serpent before finishing it off with a kidou blast to hasten its dispersal. “Are you alright?! You need to get out of the city, it’s complete madness!” His voiced shouted over the roaring of the rain. True enough, the Hollows only continued to multiply in the skies.
Azuki could only stand still as the Hollow's blood splashed on her face. Thankfully, none of it went in her eye, but she might not have even reacted to that. She was falling into shock.
It was at that moment, that she cracked a smile. It wasn't one of happiness, or gratitude, but one of pure, unbridled madness.
In the sky above, the downpour had turned into a full blown storm. Lightning thundered to the ground, and the clouds began to slightly swirl.
"Weeeeell, hello there, mister Shinigami. Whatever do you think you're doin' pissin' Azuchan off like that?"
As the funnel cloud nearly morphed into a tornado, a rip in space broke open. Hollows swarmed out, reinforcing the ones already there. It was about to become a feeding frenzy.
"Azuchan hates it when you just go around killin' Hollows ya know. I don't really care about them myself but...you went and made poor Azuchan's heart shatter. Now I'm going to kill you." Reaching into her purse, 'Azuki' pulled out a Taser. Green light danced around it, morphing it in short order to an ornate bracelet that hung around her wrist. Electricity arced from place to place on the metal bands. "Flood of Tempest."
At once, several Hollows sprang to action, including a small number that went towards the Shinigami that had killed the snake Hollow and 'Azuki.' Above her head, a Hollow that had moved ahead of the others was suddenly falling out of the sky. 'Azuki's' bracelet equipped hand was raised in the air as a bolt of lightning disappeared from it. The crackling of the air came next. As the slightly singed Hollow tried to regain control of its body, the girl let loose another two bolts of lightning, causing it to lose control once again. Gravity took over, slamming its body into the ground, but at that point its soul was already destroyed.
The Shinigami looked to her as if she had grown a second head before berating her for the nonsense she spouted. Stop killing Hollows? They were being eaten left and right! What was wrong with this woman? More Shinigami approached to reinforce the man as they regarded the berserk woman before them.
'Azuki,' gave the man a weird look. He obviously did not get that he was speaking to a different person now. Couldn't anyone tell them apart? It was so annoying trying to straighten people out. As he spouted off something about regrouping to the Shinigami and complaining about some nonsensical gibberish 'Azuki' couldn't really bring herself to give enough care to pay attention to him. The girl stuck a finger in her ear and swished it around a little bit, waiting until he was done. At his reaction to the Hollows though, it appeared he had more pressing concerns.
"Whoever said anything about letting them do it? Kill as many as you want, Azuchan's not here right now! Look, I'll even show you how fun it can be!" At her very different words, the seemingly crazed girl took aim at a Hollow that was crawling its way out of rubble. It was wounded, and likely not a threat anymore. The normal Azuki would not condone attacking it in any way for any reason, but this girl was very different right now. Demonstrating her clear disregard for whatever the Shinigami had heard before, 'Azuki' leveled her hand at the weakened Hollow, unleashing a single bolt of electricity. As it died, its body began to disperse. But she didn't wait for that. The girl unleashed another two bolts at it in rapid succession, causing its spirit to disintegrate completely even faster.
"See?! It's fun! Fun!" 'Azuki' turned and shot another one out of the sky. It seemed that the Shinigami was not prepared to attack her just yet. Probably some stupid regulation they all seemed to have. None the less, it would probably allow her to clear out some of these pests so she could fight without interruption.
For whatever reason, she could not fathom, but the Shinigami began to grow greatly concerned over this. Deducing her as threat to herself and others, they moved to dissuade the young woman from acting any further.
The Shinigami were suddenly yelling at her for killing Hollows. She didn't understand why, they were the ones who had been doing it all day up until now. It was funny; they suddenly started to sound like Azuki.
"Really, you kill them right before her eyes, and suddenly you have a problem with me doing the same? Vivvi Macello does not like hypocrites!" Vivvi, as the girl now seemed to identify herself, turned around and loosed a bolt of lightning at the Shinigami approaching her. It sprang out as fast as one might expect lightning to, so anything short of a split-second reaction would probably be insufficient to stop it.
For good measure, she unleashed another volley of the bolts, three more arcing towards the Shinigami. As she had begun to use them, Vivvi started yelling over their loud crackling. "What's with all of you Shinigami anyway? You kill things the same as anyone! It doesn't even matter who gets destroyed and who doesn't! We all feel pain, even Hollows, right?! And then you have the nerve to act as if you're in the right!" Azuki herself might not have remembered it, but Vivvi remembered the pain she felt well at her betrayal. The poor girl had never hurt anyone during her time as an Arrancar; she was cut down all the same.
Stop killing Hollows? Why should she?
Attempts to talk the mad woman down were met with rebuttal. Soon, it became clear that the only way to stop the incensed Vivvi, as she now identified, was to subdue her. The blows were delivered swift, and the human’s fragile body yielded. The sudden attacks from the Shinigami were simply far too much for Vivvi to possibly defend against, let alone counter. But when the first hit connected, it was already enough. Within Vivvi, Azuki had been trying to wake up. As the dominant soul, her conscious was enough to overtake his with the first hit. She was still in the process of waking when the other punches connected into her, and finally sent flying with a solid kick.
Landing with a dull thud in a puddle forming in the rubble, Azuki opened her eyes, beset by pain that she could not completely feel. Memories flooded into her. The snapping of her mind had done more than let in Vivvi, it had restored both his memories as well as her original ones. They all came back like a flood.
"I'm such a fool aren't I? I couldn't protect you...in the end...I was alone." Turning her head toward the Shinigami, she leveled her gaze at them. "I'm sorry...you must be confused...but please...listen to my request...please just kill me." There was one more thing she could think of off the top of her head. It wasn't like she had time to tell these people her life story. She doubted they would even really care. "And don't let me pass on...I could not bear returning to the Soul Society..."
A tear ran down the side of her face as she thought about her life, both before, and after her human birth. Her ribs were cracked, and she could feel blood coming from her head. In all likelihood, she would probably make it out of there just fine with protection, but she just didn't want to.
Up in the sky, a large crack had begun to form. A number of Shinigami had gathered near it, but they couldn't tell what was causing it. Suddenly, it shuddered as hand smashed through it. A menacing Gillian had torn his way into the city, drawing the attention of all Shinigami present. They ignored the now defeated woman’s pleas in favor of thwarting the threat that had just emerged.
Denied that simply. She didn't even have the option to finish herself off when the Shinigami charged after another foe. She could not even move a muscle.
A stabbing pain in her stomach came just briefly, before fading. Lowering her head slowly, Azuki looked down. Embedded in her midsection was a giant purple fleshy thing, but she could not tell where it came from.
"Yeah. That should do it. Thanks." Ironically, it seemed as if only the Gillian had heard her cry for her torment to be ended. Interspersed along its extendable tongue were a number of other Hollows. Before it could pull her in, however, a volley of kidou landed in its face from the other Shinigami. Its tongue loosed itself from the now gaping hole in her stomach, leaving a trail of blood and smashed organs in its wake.
The gargantuan monster retracted its long tongue along with all of the Hollows that had been skewered, sans Azuki. It swallowed them up with a crunch before taking a swipe at the various Shinigami standing on air and atop buildings.
Azuki coughed up blood; it was streaming from her mouth now and pooling into it. Her vision faded.
Azuki opened her eyes. Below her, her own lifeless corpse lay in a pool of its blood. At her chest was a short chain that seemed to only be getting shorter by the second, bits of metal breaking off and floating away. Turning around, the newly dead girl walked in the other direction. Her mind still swimming with memories, she was barely conscious of where she was even going.
All around her, there were traces of battle, but the Hollows had long since disappeared. Some were purified by Shinigami while still others were converging on the Gillian's location. The infestation would be completely eradicated once the Shinigami were done cleaning up, assuming they could handle the Menos Grande. All of them were fighting the Hollows or the Gillian itself.
The towering behemoth turned its attentions away from the two that had done the most damage, favoring instead the easier meal that was the multitude of weaker Shinigami crowding around it and blasting it with kidou. Its long purple tongued lashed out again, spearing a great number of them along with more Hollows before gobbling them all up together. Only about ten Shinigami, as well as five Hollows and the Menos remained.
Azuki herself could only wander in a daze away from the battle. It would not do for one of them to bury her soul.
A strange fellow approached her soon after. He was a Shinigami like the others, but he had only just arrived to assist the finishing combatants. Flippant and open minded, he attempted to console the spirit who would need to be passed on. “There! Excuse me! Hi! How's goes it? Nice day, isn't it?" He called out to her not in jest, but in honest kindness.
Azuki was able to smile a little as she was greeted by what seemed to be an odd Shinigami. Her Chain of Fate had corroded up to her navel at this point, and was still going strong. It was unlikely that any Shinigami could even begin to perform a Soul Burial on her at this point. Her despair was overflowing, and only outwardly could she keep up her appearance.
"Yes. It is nice weather isn't it?" The storm had greatly calmed since Vivvi disappeared from her mind. The rain was no longer a downpour, and while it was still relatively heavy, it had lost its intensity. Before her, the Shinigami seemed to be bubbling fount of cheer and relaxation that was full to bursting. He looked like one of those people who were incapable of feeling sorrow. "Can I ask you something, Shinigami-san?"
"Do you think it's possible for a Hollow to feel or be loved?" Her thoughts returned to Vivvi and the way he had treated her. Memories of her previous lives flowed around in her head. The only time she could remember being truly happy was as a Hollow. Regardless of his answer, her future decisions would remain the same. At the same time, depending on his answer, she might go about them a bit differently than she would have otherwise.
"Can hollows be loved? Of course they can." He answered in a slightly less bright tone, as the sentence sank in. Of course they could, indeed. "Can they feel love? Of course they can." His tone was serene, his thoughts drifting somewhat as memories of a field mission gone wrong not too long ago filled his mind. Of a certain hollow, whom he knew could love... and could be loved. "Hollows who want to be loved... I believe they deserve to be loved." He concluded, smiling gently as always. Perhaps it wasn't possible for hollows to regain what they lost by becoming, well, hollows. Perhaps with time, though, he could prove that no matter how dark such a life gets, there was always hope.
Something in the Shinigami's voice had gotten through to her. The pure sincerity of his answer spoke to her, and she could do little more but smile at this point as a tear broke free from her eye. The Chain of Fate began to crack, each individual link sundered by the force of overflowing emotion. Whether through ultimate despair or boundless hope, her heart shattered to pieces, taking the chain along with it. The shards of the chain fell to the ground and disintegrated
"Thank you."
Azuki's spiritual body exploded into a flurry of particles, all simultaneously rising into the air like so many droplets of water. A great mist formed in the city, as the rain began to pour harder than ever.
The Gillian had fallen to the combined might of the Shinigami. As the killing blow was landed, its massive congregation of souls began to purify. Countless lights winked out of its body and disappeared into the ether, making their way to the Soul Society. As the last of the Gillian disappeared, the Hollows began to retreat into Hueco Mundo. There were not many left. All of three seemed to survive, and perhaps only eight Shinigami. Most others perished during the Menos Grande's rampage.
The Shinigami all had somber expressions as they mourned their lost comrades.
Sirens blared as emergency vehicles raced through the streets, past the Shinigami present. There had been few casualties thanks to the swift action of the Shinigami, but the rampage of the Gillian had not been forgiving. Luckily, its focus had been mostly on the spiritual beings in the area, so only one or two people had gotten hurt. The emergency vehicles were called for a more dire reason.
The response team at the scene would never be quite sure what had caused the gaping wound in the young woman's midsection. As they worked her into a body bag, they remained unaware of a Shinigami that had followed along to find a plus. His search would be in vain, however, as the human's spirit had already disintegrated.
On the very edge of the city, miles away from the Shinigami, the rain intensified in an isolated area. Rapidly, and without warning, a whirlwind descended into the ground, carrying with it all of the water in the sky. The storm clouds swiftly receded from the sky, carrying all of their potential rain with them, and the flooded grounds began to dry as the water flowed towards the forming waterspout.
The column of water suddenly exploded in strength before condensing. As the top finished consuming the storm, it descended into the middle before settling and forming into the shape of a body. The base gained strength, assimilating all of the rain water that had fallen that day. Eventually, a creature standing a good twelve meters tall had settled into its new form. Bared upper body met angry vortex of water below, and the face exploded into white clay. It surged around before settling into a shape around her face.
Rather than the telltale roar signifying the arrival of a Hollow, only a song-like voice rang out.
