Haru Kobayashi
"Analysis complete. Prepare the next specimen."
Name: Haru Kobayashi
Nickname: The Unsolvable Problem
Age: 146 (Appears to be in his 20s
Gender: Male
Squad: 12
Rank: 3rd seat
Weapon(s): Zanpakto, Scientific Equipment (it's surprisingly dangerous)
Personality: Haru has a calm exterior, never really betraying any emotion about anything, simply carrying out his duties, but he is in truth very fascinated by science and any work done by his squad, the 12th. He is highly intelligent, and he makes sure to maintain an appearance that supports this. His nickname comes from the fact that he really enjoys coming up with and solving incredibly difficult problems that no one else can really wrap their heads around. This being said, he tends to get very angry when people call him stupid or something else to that effect. In combat, he will never begin by releasing his shikai, his reasoning being that if he can beat his opponent without his shikai, it's pointless to release it, as well as the fact that he prefers not to reveal his strength or tactics to his enemies.
Physical Appearance:
- Spoiler:
Haru is six feet tall exactly, something he is absolutely sure of. His eyes are grey-blue and are always covered by his glasses, which he wears both to correct his eyesight and maintain his appearance of being an intellectual. Along with the glasses, he always wears a lab coat over his soul reaper uniform, carrying a large number of scientific tools and equipment in the pockets of said lab coat. His Zanpakto is carried on his lower back, to keep it out of the way until he needs to pull it out, which he generally prefers not to, usually fighting with whatever scientific equipment he has with him.
Bio: In life, Haru wasn't too unusual. He was fascinated by science and always wanted to figure out how the universe worked. Accordingly, he was always doing experiments, and not surprisingly, the weren't necessarily safe. Ultimately, he was killed in an explosion when an experiment went wrong. When he woke up, he was more upset that he couldn't finish the experiment than about the fact that he was dead. He wandered around his lab for a bit, trying to figure out how he could finish the experiment, but ultimately became so frustrated that he had to leave. While he was walking around, he was attacked by a hollow, and was saved quickly by a soul reaper who sent him over to the Soul Society.
Upon his arrival, he was furious to discover what the 67th east district of the Rukongai was like, there was nothing to conduct his experiments with. He spent the next several years trying to get equipment and materials, but the fact remained that there simply was no way he could perform his experiments. So he decided to become a soul reaper. He was thrilled beyond belief when he discovered that there was an entire division dedicated to research and development, as it meant he would be able to learn more about both the Soul Society and the world of the living.
He excelled in the academy, being fairly adept with kido, making up for his less than optimal swordsmanship skills, which did improve over time. He spent much time alone with his zanpakto, attempting to learn its name and abilities, so as to become more powerful, and perhaps learn a little more about the nature of a soul reaper. When he entered his inner world, he was a little surprised to find the spirt of his zanpakto was female, but frankly, he didn't really care and liked her direct, simple attitude. As she had little to say, he was unable to learn very much, something which still irks him a little.
Upon his graduation from the academy, he entered the 12th squad, which was exactly what he'd wanted. Since then, he's been working his way up the ranks through sheer intensity and attention to detail in all of his experiments. In addition, his intelligence and dedication to the squad has helped him to move up the ranks. He is well aware of the fact that he is only third seat, but he has his eye on the the captaincy of squad 12.
Inner world appearance: A sandy beach that stretches endlessly to the north and south, with the ocean to the west. To the east is a small lake where his zanpakto spirit lives.
ZanpakutōName: Mizumi no Reijin (Lady of the Lake)
Zanpakutō spirit: The water of the lake within his inner world is effectively the true form of Mizumi no Reijin. To converse with Haru, she takes the form of a young woman dressed in a blue dress that is always touching the surface of the water. She is very calm and quiet, preferring to not speak unless necessary.
Sealed form: A katana of average length with a blue wrapped hilt and a hexagonal tsuba. The sides parallel to the blade are longer than the other two sides, and and it is decorated with a few swirls and waves.
Shikai- Spoiler:
Call out phrase: Sing
Shikai description: Haru holds his sword out in front of him with the flat facing out. He places his left hand just touching the tip of the blade before saying the command. When he does, the blade glows and straightens, lengthening slightly. The tsuba becomes a cross guard, and the blade comes to a point, becoming a longsword.
Ability: Mizumi no Reijin's ability is the manipulation, not creation of water. All of its techniques draw on the water in its surroundings, condensing the water vapor in the air, drawing water out of the ground or draining any source of water nearby. However, this ability isn't without its flaws, if the there is not enough water in his surroundings, Haru cannot use Mizumi no Reijin's powers.
Techniques: Kawa no Uta (Song of the River): Mizumi no Reijin gathers the water in the air to it and covers the blade. Haru can then launch a pressurized stream of water off the tip of the blade. He can maintain this until he can't draw anymore water from his surroundings.
Nagare no Uta (Song of the Stream): Creates a pair of compressed water disks that Haru can then control with his mind, they can act either as an attack or a shield, they are capable of blocking most minor attacks.
Kozui no Uta (Song of the Flood): Drains all the water in the area onto Mizumi no Reijin, pressurizing and compressing it. Water keeps draining onto the sword until he says "Asshuku" (compression), at which point all the water on the blade compresses into a sphere on the tip of the blade. He will then (normally) point his sword at his opponent and say the second command "Bāsuto" (Burst). The sphere then explodes outward as the pressure is released, sending a solid wave of water in all directions at very high velocities. Haru is unaffected due to Mizumi no Reijin, which bends the blast around him. The greatest weakness of this technique is the time it takes to prepare.
Bankai (Not yet achieved)
Bankai name: Shio no kōgō (Empress of the Tides)
Bankai description: Haru activates his bankai in the same way he activates his Shikai, holding it out in front of himself with the flat facing out. When he calls out his Bankai, water bursts out from where the guard meets the blade and flows over the entire blade before shooting out, away from Haru. The hilt darkens but remains the same length, but a short dagger-like blade stabs out of the bottom of the hilt. The rest of the sword remains the same.
Ability: Shio no kōgō maintains all the abilities of its Shikai and gains several new ones. In bankai, it has a much greater radius of draining, and can draw the water to it much faster. In Bankai, Haru is capable of tapping into the water table and drawing the water there to himself. In addition, it is capable of creating water, and can control and manipulate water to a much greater degree than in shikai. In addition, when Haru slashes someone, Shio no kōgō drains the water a centimeter from anywhere the blade touched onto the blade.
Techniques: Kawa no Uta (Song of the River): Shio no kōgō gathers the water in the air to it and covers the blade. Haru can then launch a pressurized stream of water off the tip of the blade. He can maintain this indefinitely due to the fact that his bankai generates water.
Nagare no Uta (Song of the Stream): Creates any number of compressed water disks that Haru can then control with his mind, they can act either as an attack or a shield, they are capable of blocking most minor attacks. Their offensive power is much increased from his Shikai.
Kozui no Uta (Song of the Flood): Drains all the water in the area onto Shio no kōgō, pressurizing and compressing it. Haru is unaffected due to Shio no kōgō, which bends the blast around him. Again, this technique is much more powerful and takes much less time to charge and activate due to his bankai being able to create water.
Shio no Uta (Song of the Tide): A massive amount of water is generated on the blade, and released, while the water in his surroundings is also condensed. The result is a massive dome of pressurized, high velocity water which effectively surrounds the battlefield. The water is then easily manipulated by Haru, controlled by his mind. Shio no Uta has two sub-techniques, Mangetsu, which forces some of the water into the shape of a massive serpent which follows his commands, and Mikadzuki, which generates and condenses water on his blade and pressurizes it, improving the power of his strikes.
Suigetsu (Water Moon): The most lethal technique of Shio no kōgō, Suigetsu appears to be similar to Shio no Uta, generating a dome of water. However, the dome is only around Haru's opponent. From the moment the dome is complete, each and every water molecule inside the dome, including from the body of anyone inside is slowly drawn out to the dome. However, this attack is not invulnerable, most bankai level attacks or a bankai release are capable of breaking through it. Also, if any part of the dome is broken, the entire technique fails and the dome collapses.Role-play sample: See Jiro Minami, going for ADP-0
