| Subject: Saria Anders (Kido Corps) Mon Oct 29, 2012 12:59 am | |
| Name: Saria Anders Nickname: Sorceress of Seireitei Age: 341 (appears 22, despite death at 65) Gender: Female Squad: Kido Corps Rank: Captain Weapon(s): Along with her zanpakuto, Saria possesses an extensively memorized kido library, and some capsules that act as spiritual-energy bombs (an idea 'borrowed' from the Quincy) for good measure. Personality: Amongst curious people, Saria stands out to most as being around the top, easily. Particularly when it comes to music or kido that she hasn't heard or seen before, she will drop what she's otherwise doing to examine it. She has even been known to shut herself into her office for days at a time in effort to recreate the latest item to pique her curiosity. One should be careful not to try deceiving her by passing sleight of hand or a zanpakuto power off as a kido spell she doesn't know; the worst case of refusing her the 'trick' to it if she hasn't found it within three days' time is the complete and utter destruction of one's home under a barrage of kido spells. Indeed, hell hath no fury like this woman scorned. Despite the occasional such incident, Saria is in fact quite a pleasant person, if quite stubborn when it comes to it, and will not hesitate to teach anything kido-related if one wishes to learn. Her teaching methods are... questionable, with the idea of 'if you see/get hit with it enough times and analyze it, you should be able to learn it' being the predominant, however, so one must be wary of trying to learn higher-level kido spells from her. Otherwise, she's known as a clumsy wanderer, possessing an abysmal sense of direction if not for her kido on the complaint that 'what's the point of a landmark if it can be seen from so many places around?' Physical Appearance: Saria has slightly tanned skin, and is fairly thin but fit enough, displaying a decently-curved form. Dark red, lightly curled hair crowns her head down to a little past her shoulders, occasionally partly covering light green eyes whose primary expressions are curiosity or general disinterest. She stands at 5'7", and can usually be seen wearing a lightly-modified shihakusho in the style of a dress with the arms cleanly cut off, and over it a short-sleeved light pink jacket with a low collar, kept open in front and embroidered with the symbol of the kido corps prominently on the back. Bio: Growing to age 65 was not an entirely easy feat in the age Saria grew up in, but she managed it all the same, commonly attributing it to a 'good lifestyle.' She was a woman that paid little mind to what was going on around her, and in life as beyond death, tended to wander on occasion and end up somewhat lost. Her death was not a particularly memorable one itself; an illness took her, and with that her spirit departed and the chain attaching it to her body promptly severed. 'Twas only shortly after that when she began to awaken to her spiritual powers, her first task being to revert her new spiritual body to something more... pleasant to look at and move around in. Her second? Haunting people, of course. It wasn't a malevolent gesture by any means, but it was so fun occasionally spooking people with mysterious goings-on that why should she stop? Well... there were the odd beasts she saw on occasion, and the rare person in a black robe that stood out so much from everyone else and seemed to go unnoticed by those very people, but they didn't seem to do much. They had a different... feel about them, but it was no matter to Saria and her entertainment. Not at first, at least... not until the spell. 'Twas utterly fascinating, seeing the man in black cast a bolt of white at a curious beast of the same color. Surely she could do that as well, if she really tried? She was departed from her body, there just had to be more that she could do, even than she'd already found. Without any actual knowledge to base it on, however, the attempted spell came to naught for some time. So she watched and waited, seeking the time when another person in black might show her something else to possibly learn from. That time came, after a few years, during which time she couldn't help but notice the chain attached to her chest... shortening. It was only a few links shorter than it had started so far, but with few remaining, it was worrying. Before it went further, she just had to find something workable. Given more time and examination of those figures in black and creatures of white, she did, in the form of a voice within her head. 'You seek further knowledge, do you not?'Just a simple statement such as that, and it felt like everything had started. A barrage of questions were patiently answered, though curiously, when the... whatever it was within her head was asked its name, it was simply silent. The explanation shortly after was that she was not 'close enough to it,' whatever precisely that meant. All things in time, she assured herself, barely even aware that her intrinsic spiritual energy was changing. Soon, it even got a forceful push forward, in the form of one of those white creatures she occasionally spotted roaming around. All it took was a forceful yank on the chain still attached to her and a resultant tear near where it was connected, and it felt like the world was falling apart around her. Cries of 'focus!' fell on nearly deaf ears, and yet were the only thing keeping her hanging on to the mind that was otherwise willfully drifting away. Onward it drifted further until Saria felt as though she was trapped within the realm of her own mind; which was, surprisingly, a bizarre city with a myriad different shapes, colors, and styles of buildings. And within them, a lone, dark blue fox with three tails, whose presence she somehow recognized as the voice within her head. 'Go back, quickly. This place is not friendly to you yet.'What happened from there, she couldn't say; all she remembered was blacking out and finding herself at the place of her initial death. There was still the slight tear in herself that she easily recollected, but otherwise nothing seemed any different. Perhaps that was all for the better, as one of those people in black, identifying themselves as a 'soul reaper,' approached her shortly after, offering to send her peacefully to the world beyond. Inwardly excited at the prospect of seeing more of that strange feat some of them had pulled off, she accepted... only to be swiftly disappointed. There were barely any people in black to be seen upon her arrival to the 'other side,' which she learned to be called Rukongai. Relegated soon to a specific little settlement amongst however many, she was otherwise left to her own devices. So she found herself a home, and simply... experimented. That the end result of her first experiment blew a wall out of her new home was just something to temporarily live with. After all, 'twas part of what attracted the soul reapers to her, to invite her into the academy. Naturally, she graciously accepted, endeavoring to learn everything she could. She quickly became bored in the classes, however, and proceeded during every bit of her free time at her own pace. Kido, zanpakuto, hollows... she made sure to learn about all of it, most particularly the first of the three, and with that naturally excelled. The problem? Another mysterious voice in her head, not in the least matching the previous, occasionally cursing at her and telling her to 'get it right.' It passed, in time, and she went on forgetting about it for now. It wasn't until she was called to delve into her 'inner world' that it and the first voice returned, both in force; the second busying itself berating her while the first did its best to defend her. If she hadn't fled the scene, the little secret she unknowingly held might have been revealed, but as she next delved into her inner world in the safety and solitude of her own home, none were to know. It was the presence of a hollow that resided inside her, created from the damage she'd received from that hollow attack, that she quickly came to discover and confront, along with learning of her 'guardian beasts.' They defended her, for now, and she didn't return to confront that inner hollow more properly until some time later, after she'd graduated from the soul reaper academy. By then she had expanded her knowledge by quite a bit, and delved back into her inner world to learn more about her zanpakuto, and confront that inner hollow more properly. There she managed to seal it for the time, but not before learning that she could potentially draw on its power. Naturally, she had to try it; unfortunately, it led quickly to another hole in her wall and quite a bit of suspicion as to its cause, as people swore they saw a cero blast. Suffice it to say, she didn't try it again for another fair period of time later. By then, she'd made it into squad 6. After she confronted and properly defeated her inner hollow (which itself was still a well-kept secret), and gained further insight into her shikai, she was transferred to squad 12 for her apparent learning ability. A few years later she was transferred again to the elite squad 1, where she spent some years until she had awakened to her bankai. At that point, considering her specialty in kido, her spreading reputation, and the need for leadership in the Kido Corps, it would have been hard not to send her there... even with the oddity of her not having been sent there in the first place. So there she was indeed sent to take charge, all the while training her kido and zanpakuto abilities and, in absolute secret, her extra hollow abilities. ZanpakutōName: Yajuukouken (Guardian beast) Zanpakutō spirit: Contrary to what one might believe from seeing so much as its shikai, Aria's zanpakuto spirit is a three-tailed fox, covered in dark blue fur with piercing eyes such a light blue that they're almost white. He bears a playful nature, as often depicted through the actions of the spectral beasts when Saria is not specifically controlling them, and purportedly specializes in magic. Otherwise, he often acts as a personal advisor, of sorts, rarely hesitating to offer his own perspective into current goings-on. Sealed form: Rather than a single blade, Yajuukouken in its sealed form is instead three matching short blades resting at either hip and against the back of her waist. Each glints with a silvery blue sheen, inclusive of the wrapping along the hilts, and possesses what appears to be writing along either side of the blade. ShikaiShikai description: Upon release of her shikai, Saria's zanpakuto blades each fade into a ball of spiritual energy, thereby totaling three, which split to each form a spectral beast. A fox, a tiger, and a large eagle are the forms they take, each appearing to be made of translucent, light blue spectral flames. However, they are quite solid and not even slightly warm to the touch, and can generally only move upon Saria's mental command. Call out phrase: 'Come out and play, Yajuukouken!' Ability: Creation of three mid-sized, translucent beasts, and ability to cast kido spells through them. Techniques:- Triad Bind: The spectral beasts can gather at three fixed points around a target to cast a much more powerful binding spell than normal kido; however, it requires absolute focus on their and Saria's parts, and if either is moved, the bind spell breaks. - Piercing Howl: The beasts can stand near each other and let out a simultaneous howl, each one seeming to reverberate through the others to create a rather uncomfortable, even nauseating sound. - Full Support: Similar to triad bind but taking specific points around Saria, the beasts can use their power in an even flow to amplify their master's kido spells, so long as neither they nor Saria are interrupted before the kido is cast. If they are, the spell backlashes at a moderate level of power against the one who was interrupted. - Independent Cast: Only able to occur once every two posts, one of the spectral beasts can act independently of Saria and cast a kido of their own even if she is in the middle of casting a different one. Bankai Bankai name: Mahou Yajuukouken (Magic Guardian Beast) Bankai description: Most prominently, each of the spectral beasts from Saria's shikai grow in size, until each stands at a height nearly equivalent to three-quarters of her own. More interestingly, upon Saria herself sprouts vulpine ears and tail formed of the same spiritual energy as the beasts themselves. Ability: Kido and sight/hearing amplification, along with control of three spectral beasts which kido can be cast through Techniques: Same as shikai, inclusive of a few more: - Chain Cast: Rather than casting alone, Saria can cast the start of a kido spell and from there delegate the rest to the spectral beasts in turn, thereby leaving one potentially guessing which it will come from, and how strong it will be from hopping between the four and gaining energy. - Alternate Sight: With a simple, short spell, Saria can transfer her sight, either partially or fully, to see what one of her spectral beasts sees; usually the eagle of the three. Inner HollowName of inner hollow: Renka Personality: A strong hatred of anything not able to be tied into kido defines Rinka's most prominent feature, and by extension, a hatred of anyone with a definable spiritual presence who isn't able to use kido (with soul reapers that can't use kido on the top of that list, since by her standards, they should be able to use it). In this, she will waste no time pointing out, extensively, any mistakes Saria might make with her own kido, however minor. A suggestion to 'let me show you how it's done' is not by the slightest means unheard of at such times. Ultimately, Rinka desires possession of Saria's body, but is presently content with being able to be vocal about many of her concerns. Appearance: Rinka's clothing is generally somewhat disheveled and ragged, but otherwise she bears a near-identical appearance to Saria. The primary differences are the paler eyes and pale skin, along with jet-black hair. She also quite notable bears a fox-like, jet-black tail protruding down from the base of her spine. Hollow mask: Saria's mask appears rather vulpine in nature, curving down at the bottom into a facade of a drooping muzzle and even possessing pointed ears at the top. Zig-zags of dark blue border the bottom edges, granting it a somewhat malevolent appearance, and further dark blue patterning spirals around both eyes before rising up to the ears. Role-play sample:- Spoiler:
"Come on, you know I had that one!"
"No, I know you didn't have that one!"
'Twas just the usual for Saria Anders, Captain of the ever-mysterious Kido Corps. She'd see a kido she wasn't entirely familiar with, and she'd swiftly flee to her office, upon footsteps barely even heard. Times like these she quite wished she had any proficiency with shunpo; alas, such techniques eluded her, even after her time spent in the elite squad 1. Instead, she was forced to rely on her own two feet, and the rare kido-assisted burst of speed; something she preferred not to rely on at such times, lest her focus drift to that and away from retaining the complete memory of what she'd just seen and was setting herself to examining. If she missed a single, even miniscule detail, she'd utterly hate herself for it and mope for a few days. Not that such a sight would be wholly unusual to the other members of the Kido Corps, granted, but she still preferred to avoid it as much as possible. She had to appear as a sufficiently strong leader, did she not?
Sealing the times she attempted to cast a new kido spell only to have the gathered spiritual energy fizzle out uselessly within her office, with nobody else around (save perhaps the two separate presences within the confines of her mind) surely helped that image greatly. Not that she didn't trust the members of her squad to attempt to help; no, that was precisely the problem. If she couldn't do it herself after a certain period of time, it wasn't enough.
Given the received complaint, this was naturally one of those times when a spell simply fizzled out, leaving lightly crackling spiritual energy before her outstretched palm for a few moments. Then again, that wouldn't be completely accurate to say in this case; rather, said lingering spiritual energy had in fact detonated, leaving a slight crater in her floor and her desk in quite a mess. This, too, was nothing new, and sometimes she had to wonder why she bothered cleaning up after herself when it was inevitably going to become like this again. Dust lightly littering the air, papers upon her desk crushed by a piece of the floor that had flown up and very likely cracked the desk beneath them, another piece of floor sticking out from the wall... yes, this was very unfortunately natural. If the office was any semblance of living being, it would have permanently kicked her out quite some time for wanton destruction, but fortunately it was not. Besides, it wasn't as though the damage was hard to rectify... after the woman was finished with her experimentation, of course. After all, she couldn't distract herself with a wholly separate kido while it was still ongoing.
That the kido in question being experimented toward wasn't even a destructive spell was a whole different issue altogether. Sometimes Saria wondered if it was just her spiritual energy that could be naturally destructive, but she'd never gotten around to experimenting on that. She simply hadn't time between her duties as Captain and all her other experimentations, or so she told herself.
"I did have that... one part of it, at least," she vocally protested, hearing a light scoff in the confines of her head before there was silence. That was soon broken by a stray piece of floor falling from the larger piece sticking in the wall and clattering lightly upon the actual floor, a ways from where it belonged. If it could think, it might have thought that it wouldn't last much longer; the woman was starting again with that bizarre, seemingly unintelligible chanting. How or why she'd come up with it, when everyone else used their normal language, was still anyone's guess, but for all intents and purposes it worked for her. Following naturally was the gathering of spiritual power at her palm, that which she'd become oh so close to over all the years working with it... and yet utilizing it through anything but her hands, leading to an absence of ability with shunpo, proved so often problematic. 'Twas odd, but she'd long since come to terms with it (despite being quite bothered with it at times).
Finally, there was the most important part: the discharge of the gathered spiritual energy of hers, hopefully into the proper spell and not another explosion. Only one out of however many times during her experimentations did such a thing occur, but always she held out hope that this would be the time. Right now was not the time, and the hole in her floor only grew bigger from the detonation of gathered spiritual power. Saria could even swear she heard her desk further cra... no, hold that thought. It split entirely with both halves dropping onto her chair, which was promptly flung forward from its usual spot to roll completely the wrong way and be stopped shortly after by a collision with the side of the hole in the floor. Wonderful... more to fix. As usual. Thus why she didn't even bother complaining; even her expression spoke of her seeing this as just a normal, only slightly tiresome occurrence.
"Are you certain what you're trying to cast is an actual kido?" spoke the three-tailed, dark blue fox Yajuukouken (though Saria frequently shortened it to Yajuu in casual conversation) that appeared at her side, in knowledge that only she could see him. A light sigh escaped his lips as he cast his gaze over the damage, though even then he wondered why he bothered with such an act; he knew as well as she that this scene was nothing remotely new. Alas, there would be some upset Kido Corps members for the state of the papers, but it would be a waste to mention that to Saria in her present state. The first time he had, she'd promptly ripped said paper in part; that wasn't something the zanpakuto spirit wished to see repeated.
"I'm..." Saria began, hesitating for a moment. "...pretty certain, yes," she assured somewhat weakly, eliciting another weak sigh from Yajuu. That poor soul that would suffer a horrible fate if it wasn't actually a kido and they refused to tell her that upon questioning; though after the first incident, which had received her quite the reprimand, he was certain everyone would know better. If they didn't, then whatever gods watched over this plane of the departed have mercy on their lingering soul.
"As long as you're so certain... then how goes progress?" A rhetorical question, naturally; everything she saw, so too did he. Even without that, the state of the office spoke quite effectively for itself.
Certain thus that he didn't really need an answer, Saria allowed herself a light breath and prepared herself for a continuation. A few words switched around or otherwise replaced was part of her solution, while the rest lay in method of discharging the spiritual energy. Too forceful, probably; the spell she'd seen was a bit more subtle, creating lightly spiraling reiryoku. What it actually did besides that didn't really matter; she still needed to add it to her 'library' one way or another, and this next attempt would, surely. Tenth time was the charm, perhaps?
So it often took her plenty more attempts than that, but with the gradually deteriorating state of her office and her depleting spiritual energy, that was a little out of the question without a fair delay to restore herself. And... wait, no... yes... success! Sort of. It started to spiral, at least, before she slightly lost focus and the few strands of reiryoku that had formed scattered about the office. Not before they disappeared did they leave dents in a few of the walls and the ceiling, adding to the ruined look that the chair-occupied hole in the floor and the fallen desk already gave.
"There, see? I'm close... er..." Saria spoke, forced to pause for a moment from exhaustion.
"Easy... you poured too much power into most of those attempts. You still need to try and stop doing that, and work up instead of down," Yajuu suggested, not for the first time. Chances were she didn't hear him... or much of anything, as she began to wander toward the chair. "Wait... Saria, that's not..." the zanpakuto spirit attempted to warn, but too late; Saria had already (for whatever reason) attempted to sit upon her fallen chair only to slip quickly off and wind herself up into the hole in the floor with it.
"Ow..." the woman muttered dejectedly; suffice it to say, properly noting her surroundings was not a strong point. She took a moment to rub lightly at the part of her back that had hit part of the hole's bottom that was lightly jutting out, glad that she couldn't feel any blood... and again curious why spirits bled, but that was quickly thrown out in lieu of retaining every memory of the to-be-mastered kido. "Here we... oh, really..." she muttered, her tone turning to actual annoyance when she tried to get up only to utterly fail. Fate must truly have hated her, to have had her fall in a perfect place for one of her trio of blades to get jammed against two slightly outreaching points in the hole's stony surface. "Yajuukouken, help me out here," she pleaded, awakening her zanpakuto's shikai for no reason than to have the blade that trapped her disappear and thereby free her. The trio of translucent blue beasts, in the shapes of a wolf, a tiger, and an eagle, that could share her kido was but an added benefit, and one that couldn't last long in her current state. But a few moments after they'd formed from balls of reiryoku into their proper shape, they faded back into balls, which returned to three points around her waist, and in turn to her trio of short blades.
"Captain?"
Oh, perfect; someone disturbing her during her little 'do not disturb' period. And with her office in such a state, and her still struggling lightly to pick herself up out of the hole she'd ended up in thanks to her exhausted state. "Just... come in and help me out of here, would you?" Saria called back. A light sound indicative of the handle uselessly being shaken followed, before the Captain let out a light sigh. Right, she specially locked the door at such times. Muttering dejectedly to herself preceded muttering the little chant of her own that called upon the minor kido spell to unlock the door. "Sorry, it's unlocked now," she assured, waving the one who entered quickly over. "Now get me out of here, would you?"
There was not even a question of what happened in the office; instead, the man's face remained straight, as if the sight was perfectly expected (it was, in fact) as he approached his fallen Captain. A hand was reached out to her, and she quickly grabbed onto it, allowing him with his plainly greater strength to extricate her from the hole she'd so foolishly fallen into.
"Right, thanks... now what did you need?"
"Oh, just..." the man began, his eyes wandering over to the desk, and the partly ruined papers... one of which was that which he sought. Disappointment flickered only briefly through his eyes before they returned to the Captain herself. "I was looking for one of the papers, actually, but I'll come back later, shall I?" he calmly suggested.
"Yeah... and bring me something to eat while you're at it, would you? I don't feel like moving around too much right now," Saria requested, earning a nod in turn. Naturally, one couldn't reject a request from their Captain, most particularly one that had been known to give people hell from a denied request... albeit one greatly different from this. Better to be safe than sorry, after all. "Some fish would be good about now, I think."
"Yes, ma'am," the man confirmed, giving a light bow before he retreated a little hastily. Again, better safe than sorry; in this case, better to not keep the Captain waiting for such a basic need than risk annoyance from being denied it for too long.
"Right then... paper, paper..." Saria muttered, wandering to her fallen desk and the slightly scattered papers still trapped under that chunk of floor. It took her a short while to recall what the man's name was and place it with what paper he might have been looking for in the midst of her mind constantly forcing itself back to the kido she presently wanted to learn. First paper? Not likely. Second? Fortunately probably not, considering it was torn part-way through the middle. Third? Yes, that was probably it, and primarily intact, too. Sure, there was a little tear at the top, and it was rather crumpled out from the middle, but it was intact. And legible, more importantly. It would have to do, as she was still mostly out of energy and that Kido Corps member was likely due back quite soon considering how long she'd taken at this (moving such a chunk of stone-like substance as was left there wasn't exactly an easy task in her state of exhaustion and with her relatively lacking physical strength). None too soon, indeed, for the second set of knocks on the door this day.
"Come in," Saria spoke, soon fairly glad to see that the man had brought precisely what was requested. He seemed a little satisfied as well, if slightly concerned, upon noting the paper in her hand.
"I'll just... take this and leave you in peace for now, shall I?" the man suggested, receiving a light smile from the Captain.
"Please. And thanks for the food. Now go on to what you were doing, don't let me hold you up," replied Saria, making her way over to her fallen desk. Even if she had to sit cross-legged on the ground and rest the plate on the chunk of floor that proved a decently sufficient surface, she would most certainly eat at her desk; 'twas only proper. Later, she'd have to continue her experimentation... but for now, food and a rest was necessary. That in mind, she dug politely into her fish, every bite making sure to avoid or extract possible bones. Thoughtful her expression remained the whole time, examining every point of the new kido she'd yet been able to discern. Her subconscious meanwhile directed her hand to her mouth as necessary, and her jaw open and shut, and the little contractions of her throat to swallow.
A few minor, missing points and Saria assured herself she'd have the kido completed and ready for practical use... use that still had to be debated after the initial mastery. 'Twas always like this, and such was how she worked; everyone knew it, to the point where complaints about the state of her room or office had long since subsided. Sure, there was the occasional newcomer that brought it up out of her earshot, but what she didn't hear, didn't affect her.
She was the Kido Corps Captain and had to maintain a certain air of authority intermingled with friendliness, after all. Such a task was easy... and she was precisely where she belonged. Even if right now it was sitting on the floor beside a presently ruined desk that would be repaired later.
