Name: Leopold Chang

Theme:

Age: 1111 (Appears to be in his late twenties to early thirties)

Gender: Male

Squad: 13

Rank: Captain

Weapon(s):
A simple deck of playing cards, a jar of marbles, and an assorted handful of die.

Personality:
The biggest factor of Leopold's personality is his dedication. Whether in the form of his incredible resolve to do what he sets out to do, or his obsession with the things he likes. It can have a positive or negative connotation. Everything he does, he does to the extent of his ability. As a child he loved games. He played all sorts of games, especially ones where money was wagered, and he did everything within his power to be good at them. He shuffled, rolled, and bluffed his way to exhaustion, and then did it all over again. Doing so, he became quite good, but he also neglected his social life and had a very small amount of friends due to this obsession. When he became interested in combat, and different fighting styles, that was the next thing he set out to conquer. He fought, he brawled, he straight up promoted violence to the point where his body could hardly move, and then he would take a break to gamble. After refreshing his stamina, he would fight some more until he was quite adept. This resolve to do things has lead him through his life and brought him to where he is today. He is proud of it, but at times, he also accepts that it causes problems. He can become addicted to things he likes very easily, such as smoking. Luckily, he had the foresight not to try any other drugs, otherwise he might be addicted to those as well. Besides smoking, he is also a drinker, though he tends to have control over this. He doesn't so much enjoy being drunk. He just likes to drink a bit to take the edge off of his harsh life. Though his number one obsession/passion is still gambling, he has begun to like fortune telling. His reasoning behind this being that he enjoys gambling which is all about luck, and if you think about it, fortune telling is also about luck. If you are lucky, you will have good fortune.

Another large contributing factor to his personality is humor. He loves comedy and has many quirky traits that he thinks are funny. His type of humor involves snyde comments and extreme sarcasm. He also likes to act serious all the time, but have some silly traits that don't fit. Most people find him to be displeasing and rude, but he doesn't care. As long as he enjoys his humor, he is OK with it. Problems start to arise when he gets way to into it, or uses it at inappropriate times. He has a tendency to say things he shouldn't to superiors and people of higher status. This usually stems from them getting mad at his natural smirk. Someone will tell him to stop smiling, and he thinks it's funny, so he will same something sarcastic back like "OK, hand me a thread and needle." This usually doesn't end well for him. It generally gets him in a lot of trouble. This only happens in awkward social situations where he is surrounded by people of higher status, and can't really afford to act out. When out on the battlefield, he will get serious. He knows that life or death situations are not the time for humor, unless it is to boost moral.

A more recent quirk to his personality is how forgetful he is. He is really really really... What was I gonna say? Oh right, forgetful. It started off as forgetting simple things like addresses and things like that. Recently he has had severe trouble in remembering names. It takes a few introductions before he will remember your name, and in such time, he has probably gambled with you at least once. By taking the time to talk with you, and play games, it makes it a lot easier to engrave your appearance into his mind. By doing this, he can simply attach a name to the image and wala, he knows you. This is most likely caused by a combination of age and 'damage'. As people get older, they generally become more forgetful, but, because he is only in his 1100s, it could easily be attributed to something else. In his time, he has taken more than a few blows to the head. Whether by negligence in combat, or hard hits from martial training. Despite his lack of finesse in melee combat, he has been forced to train in it. He still sucks at the more articulate ways of combat, but he does know how to take a blow. He is more of the wild brawling type than the affluent martial artist. He can just take a hit and try and ignore it, or his pain tolerance is high enough to take it. Not the smartest way to handle combat, but, he just doesn't have the fine motor skills to do otherwise.

Secretly, the trait that is most important is manliness. Manliness is the trait that Leopold holds most important. If you aren't manly, you aren't a man. Manliness has no set definition, and is more of a mind set. It is typically displayed by a big, muscular, hairy, hardy guy who smokes drinks and is a hooligan to his hearts content. Sure, such men are often considered manly, and Leopold himself shares some of these traits. But this is not the sole characteristic of manliness. The first requirement is that you are a man. Can't be manly if you are a girl. This is not sexism, this is a fact. The second requirement is that you must be a man. This requirement is so important that it takes the first 2 requirement slots. The third requirement is that you have a passion. Something that you love more than anything. Leopold has a passion for sure, and that is gambling. The fourth, and final requirement, is that you have an endless desire to better yourself. You must want to better yourself regardless of the costs. You will train until you puke, you will fight until you are the last one standing, and you will work until you are the richest man alive. You will continue no matter what and never give up. You cannot quit in anything you do. You will keep trying until you are victorious. That is what it means to be manly. Leopold holds this code of conduct in very high esteem, and is on this path of manliness. He will do whatever it takes to succeed in his endeavors and be deemed a manly man.

Appearance:
Physical Appearance:
Blue. Light blue. Nearly cotton candy blue. This is the color of Leopold's hair. Now, generally cotton candy hair would never be found atop a mans head. It is something of pop bands, and dandy clowns, not of large men with rippling muscles and a stern gaze. Leopold would not, could not be daunted by these flimsy stereotypes and decided to make oddly colored hair a thing of manly men everywhere. His bright and gay hair rises into a very rough pompadour that simply screams 'badass'. That is the first thing you thought when you saw him right? "Oh look, candy hair, that's badass." I thought so. Manly as all hell. This thick, blue, awesome hair extends down the back of his head, where it remains wild and untamed. It extends haphazardly down the back of his neck, and circles forward a bit to surround his ears which remain uncovered.

Below this extraordinary and glorious hair is a less amazing, but still quite awesome body. Seemingly enclosed in the beautiful fur of champions is Leopold's face. I say enclosed because riding along his chin, and roughly down onto his neck is a thick and scraggly beard. It is also a nice candy blue, which makes it pretty damn awesome. His face is rather uneventful, if not a little intimidating. He has serious eyes, but a rather sly smirk adorning his visage at almost all times. He is just that kind of awesome. Above these serious eyes is a pair of dark, thick eyebrows. He would have had candy eyebrows as well, but nothing is more intimidating than thick, dark eyebrows glaring you in the face, so he decided to keep them as they were. Plus, he couldn't be sure that others could handle the sheer epicness of candy blue eyebrows. The world is just not ready for them.

Just below this face and hair combo that screams perfection in all forms, is his body. His body is chiseled and lean, with a nice glossy tone of.... Who the hell was I just describing. Leopold isn't like that at all. He is thick and bulky, with manly muscles, and a gargantuan neck. His shoulders and neck were exercised to the extreme, and display some intense muscular vigor. His arms, while no laughing matter, are not nearly as robust. His upper arms are thick whilst his forearms remain less defined. This may leave the impression that his forearms are weak, but this is not so. They have a much finer, more focused muscular structure that is more suited to the gambling tricks of the trade that Leopold practices. His hands are thin, with long fingers, perfect for gripping objects, and sleight of hand. Adorning most of his upper body are numerous tattoos of varying design. On each shoulder and parts of the chest and back are traditional eastern dragon tattoos that wind and coil onto each side. On each forearm are blue stars that are quite close to his hair in hue.

Going down even further, you reach Leopolds abdomen. There is not much to say about his abdomen as it is fairly typical. You can see the rough outline of strong muscles underneath his thin layer of gut. This gut is typical among manly men as it is the perfect place for their bodies to store excess awesomeness(also known as alcohol and fried food). He is not fat, he just has a rather healthy appetite for unhealthy things. Of note on his torso and upper body is a rather daunting and long scar that extends from his right shoulder all the way down his body to just below the waist. This is a rather nasty and jagged scar from his very first encounter with a hollow. Needless to say, at the time, it was quite the serious wound and he was lucky to survive it. Below his abdomen you reach his.... legs. Yes, you suddenly arrive lower at his legs. Contrary to his built upper body, Leopold's legs are quite slender. This is because he's not some sissy runner, he's a gambler and a brawler. Why the hell would he need nice muscular legs to do either of those? He wouldn't.

The cloths that are placed upon this miraculous body are quite typical for a captain. He wears a typical shinigami's shihakushō, though his outfit has no sleeves, remaining cutoff at the shoulders. On top of this he wears his white captain's haori, also without sleeves. The only thing that Leopold wears that is far out of the ordinary is a pair of yellow tented sunglasses.

Bio:
There's not much that Leopold remembers of his previous life, if anything at all, as most of his oldest memories are from times spent in Rukongai. Leopold grew up in the 80th district of East Rukongai, and needless to say, it was no place for a young boy to be. Violence, sex and gambling were the three activities most prevalent in the area, and Leopold was too young for two of them. The one he clung to with an unnatural resolve was gambling. It became his money maker and way of life out there in the slums. A kid like him couldn't fight for food, he could, but wouldn't, sell himself for food, but he could gamble. All he needed was luck and skill to make large quantities of money. Sure, some men when they lose at gambling get violent and take the money right back, but that's only on the streets. Out here in the dark alleys and hidden from the vision of the common folk are dens. Dark hidden rooms full of scary faced geezers who run the true gambling scene in rukongai. In here, you can gamble to your heart’s content without worrying for your safety because all transactions are enforced by the local thugs.

It is in these horrendous gambling dens that Leopold felt safest. He simply couldn't survive by himself out in the slums so he formed deals with the notorious geezers who ran the place. For safety and food, he would donate most of his gambling proceeds to them. They found this to be quite the deal considering his nearly prodigious skills in the art. It was very profitable for them, and once they had used him to their hearts content, they simply tossed him out, and moved on. By this time though, Leopold had aged quite a bit. He would fondly remember his times in the dark underground of rukongai, but it was time for him to move on. He was bigger now and could fend for himself, so he took to the art of brawling. Walking on the street, if any big tough looking guy didn't get out of his way, it was time for a fight. He would engage with the target, smile across his cheeks, and duke it out. More often than not, he was knocked to his ass, and beaten to a pulp, but this kind of helped him. With his fighting style, he was never going to excel in attacking, but he sure has hell could take the blows.

Learning from these instances, he created his own way of fighting which consisted of taking hits, while slowly damaging the opponent until you outlasted them. It was crazy, it was brutish, it was inefficient but it was what he liked. He didn't have to learn all that finesse junk, he simply had to hit and take hits over and over until he won. He would spend his time refining his gambling, whilst strengthening his body. It was the perfect life for the simpleton, until he was introduced to alcohol. Boy oh boy was that fun. He didn't drink that often, and he didn't particularly like getting drunk, but it sure as hell helped in a fight. Taking a few shots before trading blows allowed him to shrug off even the most devastating punches. A handy advantage for a fighter who wins through stamina. In time, he became a bit notorious. First for being an exceedingly greedy and proficient gambler, and second for being a rebellious idiot who fights pretty much anyone willing to duel him. With his wild antics, and growing reputation, he earned the distaste of the dangerous old men who had once supported him.

With a well-planned ambush, he was surrounded by the thugs who had once secured his safety. They were big, armed, and quite intimidating. All had once been feared throughout the district before they were tamed by money, and they would pose quite the challenge for Leopold. Without a second though, a smile donning his cheeks, Leopold started the brawl, but it wasn't going well. He was bruised, cut, beaten, and near death, but he felt an overwhelming sensation from the core of his being. This power from within welled up from his very being, and for the first time in his life, he exuded spiritual pressure. It was no minor force either, as the previously victorious thugs were brought to their knees, struggling to stand up. With his new found font of spiritual energy, Leopold prevailed in this fight. Such a tremendous burst of reiastu was bound to attract attention, and not long after, Leopold was scouted by the shinigami.

His time in the academy was short, as his combat skills and reiatsu were already at a high, if unrefined, level. He excelled in hand to hand combat, and conned nearly every other student with his gambling talents. He made more money off of the rich kiddies in the academy than he ever did out in the slums. It was rather refreshing. Another thing he was exposed to in the academy was the art of kidō. He wasn't very good at it, just as he wasn't good at more refined forms of fighting, but he was exceptionally powerful. Even the most basic uses of the art ended in large explosions at his hands. In time, the instructors knew it was never going to be his specialty, in spite of his raw powers, so they focused on his strengths. They further progressed his strengths in hakuda and introduced him to zanjutsu. His swordsmanship was crude, but it held the same style as his hand to hand combat. He would block, block, and block some more until he could slowly whittle away at the enemy. It wasn't favored much amongst the more aggressive teachers, but it was never called weak. It was just a style that suited him, nothing more, nothing less.

After the academy, he was immediately accepted into the 11th squad for his skills in hand to hand combat, and his decent skill with the sword that seemed to suit their style, but his personality was not something that meshed well with them. Once would think that with his obsession with manliness, and silly antics would be enjoyed amongst the crude bunch, but they thing they hated most was losing their belongings to him through gambling, so he was soon transferred to the 13th squad which had an opening for someone of his position. He wasn't really liked in the 13th squad, but they were very accepting of his flaws, and his relation with them was rather smooth. He did continue to gamble, he did continue to be wild, but Captain Ukitake was so kind and composed that he never once criticized Leopold for his antics which earned Leopold's respect. A man of his stature and personality, despite Ukitake's girly, unmanly looks, was someone that he held in high regard, so Leopold subsided his way of life a bit in order to make things easier for his new icon.

For a very, very long time, Leopold stayed in the squad, seemingly stagnant in his low ranking position, but he was not even remotely static. During these many years, his skills had grown and grown without pause, whilst what he displayed was average at best. He was more into furthering himself, and not his position in society until he was confident enough to do so. He trained in secret, mastering his way of combat, even attaining his shikai relatively early on in his career. Not too many years later, he had reached his bankai through self-training, all the while maintaining his foolish outer appearance to everyone else. He truly believed that no one knew of his strengths, but the composed Ukitake was no fool. He took great care in getting to know his subordinates, even the lowly ones such as Leopold, and he had a very keen eye. Leopold's vast efforts had not gone unnoticed in the slightest, and Ukitake was just waiting for Leopold to show his strengths by his own volition, but time to wait was not something he had.

For years, Ukitake had been battling a disease that had drained him completely of vigor. The whole squad knew this, and cared deeply for their kind Captain, Leopold included, but Ukitake knew his reign as captain was coming to an end. He decided confronted Leopold with his intention to retire, and asked that Leopold accompany him to the Captain-Commander to submit his resignation. Leopold was confused as to why he was chosen, but he would gladly take the time to escort his respected elder. Once they arrived at the main hall of the First Division, Leopold was surprised to see 2 other captains, and the Captain-Commander himself already waiting. Utterly confused, it took a brief explanation from Ukitake. Upon his retiring, he would obviously need a successor, and that he had brought Leopold for a Captain Proficiency Test. Leopold briefly tried to act innocent, and confused, but they all saw through him completely, so he sobered up his sillyness, and got serious. Since he was here, and he was facing the Captain-Commander, he simply could not lie and show disrespect. He showed his abilities to the four, and within a day, as introduced to the other captains. The whole process went quite smoothly, yet his nomination came as a surprise to many who knew him. Not one of his own squad had even an inkling of his true strength, and they were people close to him. Without a doubt, it came as more of a surprise to everyone else who had never even heard of him. An unseated person getting promoted to captain was quite astonishing.

With his new station at the helm of the 13th Squad, Leopold humbly accepted his new role and took control of his squad. He ordered the immediate conversion of their main hall into a casino. This base/casino is where Leopold currently resides within soul society.

Inner world appearance:
The inner world of Leopold Chang is dominated by the colors Red and Black. This isn't some sissy emo world where darkness and blood reign supreme, it is much more refined than that. His inner world is a rather large(giant) roulette table, and he is standing on the motionless wheel. There is a single Green section on the wheel for the 0, and then the black and red sections are numbered typically for a roulette wheel. Inside the green section rests the single ball that is tossed during a session. Surrounding the wheel is the wooden circle that keeps the ball from bouncing out when spun. The wheel is nearly always still, but in times of particular emotional turmoil, the wheel spins, sending the ball bouncing around at high speed. When Leopold calms down, the wheel slows to a stop, and the ball always lands on green. Upon the wooden barrier surrounding the wheel, stacks of different colored chips can be seen faintly, but they don't influence his mind much, and are always stationary.

Zanpakutō

Name: Seven

Zanpakutō spirit:
Seven can easily be described as a living, or at least animated, slot machine. He is rather old fashion is design, not even appearing to be functional, but he is rather fancy. He is bade of polished wood, and all joints, screens and metal pieces are decorated with ornate polished gold. He is a beauty if he does say so himself, which he does, a lot. He is a rather proud and narcissistic being. The lever on the side of him is always in motion, moving up and down, but it never causes the plates to spin. The plates themselves seem to serve as his eyes, with the two outside wheels displaying eyes, and the middle one displaying a classic red seven. This number is his namesake and he prefers to keep it on display. The coin dispenser is very mobile and operates like a mouth for the odd being, who is quite a talker.

Seven talks non stop almost all of the time, and often gets on Leopold's nerves. Leopold is generally calm, and can handle annoying things, but this spirit pokes him in all the wrong places. On a regular basis the spirit insults his hair, his beard, his glasses, and his muscles, all of which Leopold takes pride in. Despite this, Leopold is able to poke right on back by insulting the gold or the malfunctioning lever. Through their bickering they have actually developed an odd friendship that allows them to understand what each other is thinking based on the insult thrown. When Seven is particularly hurt by Leopold's words, the plates spin quite quickly, often landing on the wrong displays which serves to frustrate the spirit even further. This serves to amuse Leopold, but for fear of insulting the spirit too much, he generally stops around this point.

Sealed form:
The sealed form of Seven is not nearly as flashy and ornate as the spirit is. It is a typical katana, with no gold or polished surfaces. The tsuba, upon closer inspection, is a metal gambling chip. The hilt is wrapped in an unassuming grey fabric. Danging from a small chain at the end of the hilt is another metal poker chip, nearly identical to the tsuba, though it is smaller.

Shikai

Call out phrase: Lucky lucky!

Shikai description:
The shikai of Seven is much simpler than a blade, or any other weapon for that matter. It takes the form of a simple coin that Leopold holds in his hand. It is roughly the size of a quarter, and on each side, rather than heads or tails, are identical jesters. Both sides are the exact same with a devious looking jester staring at you.

Ability:
By flipping Seven, much larger versions of the coin appear high in the air and fall to the battlefield. These are quite physical in nature and damage, though they are constructed of the users reiatsu.

Techniques:
Heads Up! - Leopold flips Seven in his hand, and catches it. As soon as it lands, a much larger and much heavier coin appears above the target in the air. It is very large, and would cause quite a bit of damage, but it takes a whole post to fall from this distance. On a side note, it is rather silent until it crashes into something so it would be hard to noticed without actually looking up and seeing it.

Tails down... - Leopold flips seven in his hand, but then flips it onto the other side once it lands. This causes a large coin to appear next to the opponent, which then flips over towards them. It is large and takes time for it to flip, but if it lands it hits with quite a force.

Crazy Roulette - Using his thumb and forefinger, Leopold spins the coin on edge on the ground in front of him, or in the air just above his hand. This sends a massive spinning coin from his position towards the target. This coin travels in a linear fashion towards the enemy.

Make It Rain - A technique of desperation, Leopold flips Seven extremely high into the air, out of sight. Within moments, thousands of regular coins, identical to Seven's shikai form will cascade from the heavens. It is quite a downpour, obstructing vision, and flooding the battlefield with the sounds of coins colliding with the ground. Leopold will not receive Seven back until he releases his shikai, in which case his blade reforms in his hand. The downpour lasts for 5 posts, or until Leopold releases the shikai. In both instances, the sealed form materializes in his hand.

Bankai

Bankai name: Cup of Sevens

Bankai description:
Similar to his Shikai, Leopold's Bankai takes the form of a simple item in his hand. It is a simple leather lined cup, with a single die inside. The die is a six sided, typical die, though the patterns on the side all display 7 dots. Aside from the simple cup in hand, his bankai forms as something else. A gargantuan cup replaces the battlefield, sealing Leopold and everyone around him inside. Resting on the ground of this gargantuan cup is a single giant die, all sides displaying 7 dots.

Ability:
The cup in Leopolds hand along with the die inside it are directly linked with the gargantuan cup and die that have replaced the battlefield. When leopold shakes the cup, the giant cup shakes as well. When the die moves inside his cup, the large die inside moves in the same fashion, though obviously on a larger scale. Every motion he puts upon his cup, causes the field to move in the exact same fashion, though this can be quite dangerous. Despite him being in control of the field, the die inside moves in a random fashion due to his shaking, putting even himself in danger should it move in a negative manor. This bankai is quite dangerous and is a gamble for Leopold himself. On a side note, gravity is skewed a bit in this field. As long as your feet are resting on a surface of the cup, whether it be the walls or the base, no amount of shaking will uproot you(this applies to all in the cup). It will simply feel as if wind is blowing when the cups moves with you attached, and the die will appear to be moving by its own volition. Should you be standing in the air using reiatsu, you will see the true motions of the cup moving violently around and the movements of the die will make sense.

Techniques:
Crazy Quake - Leopold stands firmly with his feet against one of the cups surfaces. He then shakes the cup as hard and violently as he can. This sends the die slamming all over the place inside the battlefield, and being in the air during this attack is quite dangerous, as the walls of the cup will be moving as well, adding another potential surface to come in contact with. This violent shaking motion lasts for one post.

Lucky Stance - Leopold stands on the die in the center of the cup. He then bounces it skillfully inside the cup, and rides it around the battlefield, using the sides of the cup to propel him in different directions. As always, he must be careful or risk being smashed by his own attack.

Make-Shift Meteor - Leopold reaches into his cup and pulls out the die, causing it to disappear from vision in the field. He then throws it down into his cup with tremendous force, causing the large die to rocket into the cup at blinding speeds to where ever Leopold had aimed.

Free Floating - Leopold freely tosses the cup into the air, causing an effect similar to that of reduced gravity planes. Because of the lack of an anchor, the air moves in a fashion which causes the sensation of weightlessness upon everyone inside. The die stays suspended in the middle of the cup, and everyone can seemingly swim through the air. Gravity is not gone, everyone is just in a state of free falling, and until the cup comes crashing down, they can suspend themselves in the air. This effect can easily be countered by using your reiatsu to stand firmly in the air. This lasts for 2 posts, or until something comes into contact with the small cup.

Mega Yahtzee - Leopold reaches into the cup and pinches the die inside. He then squeezes it until it shatters into a fine white powder. This takes 1 post for him to charge while pumping his reiatsu into the die. In the large cup, once the die is broken, it scatters not into a white powder, but into thousands upon thousands of small, regular sized die. Leopold then shakes the cup with a lot of strength, sending all the thousands of dice storming around the cup, hitting all inside with sharp piercing force, including Leopold himself. This is a dangerous technique that puts the user into harms way, more so than any of his other techniques. This storm of die lasts for 5 posts, upon which the bankai releases, and Leopold's katana reforms in his hand, and the field returns to normal.

Application looks decent. No problems there.

I can approve this for ADV-0 with 80 points. Once these points are applied to stats, this will be moved to accepted.

Doctor is the member of the month. Ever since he joined, he's been extremely active, and really knows how to get things moving plot-wise. He was recently promoted to staff as well, and so far has shown great enthusiasm. He's also a friendly presence in the c-box, which is never a bad thing.

Gray is character of the month. Apparently one of the more popular characters on the site, well-known for his habit of stripping, which isn't good enough for Ulqui, but seems to do the job for his numerous IC fangirls. Has also earned (EARNED, not bought) numerous stat points in the past few months. Side note: Anyone who speaks of a gilf pairing will be shot on sight. :U
