Guilds matter on FTD and everything about them is member driven and controlled, including their creation. Your character can start as experienced or novice as you like with no repercussions and your story is your own to create. The system makes sense and leaves plenty of room for freeform and system playing all the same, meaning you aren't restricted most of the time.
