In an unknown place in the galaxy, the deity Nyarlathotep was freed from his seal. However, the great universes were not prepared for this, and it sent a rift along all time, space, and reality. Nyarlathotep, now free, went to Earth to cause chaos and to reawaken its masters to ruin all mortal creation.
However, there was more to it. That very rift that was caused by Nyarlathotep also had a massive effect on Earth. This rift returned Lord Zedd and his minions to their lunar citadel. They were now free to resume their former efforts on Earth.
If there was any hope it was that not just the evil Lord Zedd was restored by the rift. Zordon of Eltar was reconstructed and the command center was returned to operational ability. Zordon quickly took count of the situation and began to work for a solution. The Zeo crystals were readily available, having not been destroyed, but even that was not enough. The two evils may be working independently, but Zordon knew one team against them was asking too much. So he restored the Mighty Morphin morphers and gave both sets to new teenagers, hoping it would be enough.
Now there are new rangers. New challenges. Same old Angel Grove.
