Personality: Defining Adam Taylor's personality is a difficult, at best. One moment, he can be calm and witty, the next he can be as childish as a fiver-year-old on thirteen metric tonnes of sugar, and after that his fury can know no bounds. In a nutshell, he's unpredictable.
However, he does have some constants. For one, he always attempts to come back with some sort of witty riposte, if the situation deems it acceptable. For example, trash talk, or friendly banter. While his attempts to defend himself will usually be half-baked and will likely have no effort put into them, he will stick his neck out to defend a trusted ally or friend from an assault, be it verbal or physical. That said, while he may not value himself much, he is fiercely defensive of the people he cares about, and will lay his life on the line to make sure they make it out.

Physical Appearance:
Being a resident of the Soul Society, Adam's outward appearance is affected far less by age than the average human. As such, despite being fifty years of age, he looks more like a man of twenty.

Tall, slim and with noticeable muscle tone, Adam does not appear to be the kind of person to partake in combat with martial arts and bodily strikes in general. However, his build hides his actual abilities, though it may just be the way he wears his uniform. Due to his parentage, Adam's skin tone has a slight tan to it, but given his country's weather, getting enough sun to keep up a proper tan would likely result in hypothermia.

His hair is a straw-like clump of locks, a dark grey colour instead of black - genetics mean that, were he still alive, his hair would likely have fallen out before its time. Now, however, it just greys quicker. It's cut short, an inch in length at most,with the fringe higher than most.

Bio:
Before he perished, Adam lived a fairly inconspicuous life. He'd wake up, go to school, do stuff with friends, and go back home again. Heck, before he died, he was even going to ask a girl out. He took kickboxing on Saturdays, went scuba diving once a month, and just lived life at a standard pace. He wasn't discontented with his bog-standard life, however. In fact, this contented him to a massive degree - he didn't want to be anyone special. He just wanted to live a happy life, at a confortable pace.

Unfortunately, the car that hit him in a thirty miles per hour zone was not going at a comfortable pace. It was doing well over fifty, in fact. Adam always adhered to the 'Green Cross Code,' as he knew it, and had looked left and right before crossing. Alas, fleeing criminals tended not to stop for this, and as such, the poor boy was mown down. Though he did not die immediately, by the time the paramedics arrived on the scene, he was long gone.

Confined to one of the less well-off areas of the Rukongai, though not in the slums, Adam was contented. He was living life at a comfortable pace, but it was in there that he realised something - he had nothing to work towards. No school, no parents to please, no weekend clubs, no diving, nothing. He was bored out of his wits. His decision to become a Shinigami was, in its basest form, one he took to stave off the boredom. It did not make him any less determined, however.

Throughout his training, and in his duties thus far, Adam always sought to further himself, partaking in martial arts training as often as his body could handle it. He did not study any art in particular, however - he simply mixed parts of different ones together, essentially creating a fighting style akin to his personality. It has its constants, but it is largely unpredictable.

Throughout his career, Adam has made a name for himself, though only among certain circles. He is known for taking on Hollows without the assistance of his Zanpakutō, instead preferring to use his reiatsu to reinforce his various kicks, punches and whatnot. He will, however, pull out his blade to finish off enemies, as mere strength and skill does not a Shinigami make.

Inner world appearance:
A traditional Japanese dojo; however, there does appear to be a slight red tint to everything. A mannequin donning a black karategi with white trimmings stands at the far end of the room.

Zanpakutō

Note: Due to my distrust of Google Translate, and a lack of knowledge of anything but a few snippets of French, you'll have to imagine that they're in the appropriate language.

Name: Brutal Fist

Zanpakutō spirit: Brutal Fist takes on the form of an aged grand master, balding and bearded. His hair is the white you would expect from and elderly person, but his body is not. With muscles that make him look as if he could topple a city block by pushing forcefully against it, his karategi (fastened by a black belt with white infinity symbols representing his dan) as pure a black as the deepest depths. In his stormy grey eyes is a hard, unforgiving look, one that does not permit a person to fail.

Sealed form:
A rusted broadsword, with a faded teal handle. The guard is a a dull gold, as is the band covering the lower portion of the handle. The tassel is a faded red, and is frayed at the end.

Shikai


Call out phrase: Smash, Brutal Fist

Shikai Description: Life seems to be restored to Brutal Fist, with the blade becoming shining and razor-sharp. The guard and band on the handle take on a lustrous gleam, while the teal in the handle is restored to a simple block colour.

Ability: The wielder is gifted the knowledge of a random grand master, allowing him to tap into various martial arts (one at a time). The techniques' effectiveness, however, is still situational, and is dependent on Adam himself. He forgets the techniques the instant his blade is sheathed, apart from the ones he has learnt by himself.

Techniques:
Rules of Engagement: Brutal Fist appears to dissipate into thin air, instead taking place as a martial artist's black belt around Adam's waist. In this state, all physical blows (punches, kicks, etc) are used with a significant increase in efficiency.
Ring of Honour: Adam is consumed by an inner desire for an honourable battle, forcing him to fight until he can no longer continue, or until he has won. Does not affect stats, but increases valour and alters his personality accordingly.

Bankai
Not applicable.
Adam is like the majority of Shinigami - he's unable to pull off a Bankai.

Role-play sample:
Assume stance. Edge in closer. Target appears to have weak legs. Attack those first, cause immobilisation. Finish off foe, return in time for tea.

That was the analyst in Adam speaking. When he could, he took a look at his foe, instead of rushing in head first, like countless other colleagues of his. Not just ones in the same squad as him, either. He knew the eleventh division had an excuse for being reckless and braindead when it came to combat, but Taylor valued his life. So, he often did his best to take as few risks as possible – even if this was hypocritical, coming from a man who fought Hollows without his blade drawn most of the time.

Not that Brutal Fist seemed to mind. In actual fact, he seemed to encourage Adam to pursue strength on his own, instead of using him as a ‘crutch.’ The Shinigami’s rather odd approach to dealing with Hollows was duly noted, but nobody really attempted to stop him. They question him, but never stopped him. He did his job without any problems – why should they?

The Hollow facing Adam was a fairly weak one – cannon fodder at best, but it would make for a good wind-down. It was getting late, and if there was one thing he never wanted to miss, it was his nightly mug of chamomile, and the Soul society’s equivalent of digestive biscuits. Launching himself at the grossly oversized arachnid, Adam launched himself into the air, seeming to disorientate his prey. This was perfect – he was in prime position to strike, and the masked spider had no idea of it.

A familiar crunch sounded as a sandal-clad heel was brought crashing down upon one of the numerous leg joints, warping the limb into a shape that seemed unnatural beyond broken. In retaliation, the beast screeched, and attempted to plunge poisoned fangs into him. At this point, he had taken another limb in his arms, and had left it little more than a vaguely useful appendix. Though he dodged the brunt of the attack, it still scraped him, and a minute amount of the toxin began coursing through his veins.

Adam felt the effects immediately. Stinging sensations erupted throughout his body, and he felt his movement become inhibited. Not enough to be debilitating, but it still left him notably weaker.
Venom has been taken into the bloodstream. Effects appear to include slowed movement, possibly weakened physical strength. Spiritual power remains unaffected. Situation may result in multiple gashes and non-lethal – but extremely painful – poisoning.

With his enjoyment of the rest of the evening at stake, Adam drew Brutal Fist from its scabbard – little more than a length of frayed leather – and activated its Shikai. Normally, he would not have found this necessary, especially against such a pitifully low-level foe. However, a lapse in concentration had allowed him to be poisoned, and this warranted a quick finish.
“Smash, Brutal Fist.”
And, upon the words being uttered, the transformation took place. The rust dissipated into the air around it, the colour and gleam returning for the rest of the blade. And, in two – not very fluid or skilful, but effective nonetheless – blows, his masked foe was left rolling comically on the floor. Until, that is, he plunged his blade straight through its face, seeming to smash it, more than pierce it. But, such was his technique. Brute force applied skilfully.

“This is Snake… I’m done here.”
“I’m sorry?”
“It’s a little in-joke I have with some friends. Now, would you mind picking me up? I think that venom had some anaesthetic in it. I can’t feel anything from the waist down.”

You need to pick a seat, since we cannot grade the RP sample without it, being that there are concrete starting ranks for different seats.

Also, you can't have a shikai that focuses on increasing stats, since there are no actual stat increases on this site for anything other than Visored masks. We usually word things like that "can fight more efficiently", or something along those lines.

I think that should cover it. I've not done forum RPing with stats before, so you'll have to bear with me if it's not quite what's being looked for.

It's fine now. Plus, stats are only used as a means of determining who is stronger/faster, etc. in a fight, so you don't need to worry about them too much.

One thing though, I'd encourage you to take a higher seat, from 3 to 10 at least. 20th falls into the unseated category, and in that instance, you wouldn't be able to start out with a high enough rank for Shikai.

I decided to go with ten, seeing as his refusal to use his Zanpakutō would likely inhibit his abilities, regardless of skill.
